Using Landing Pages to Increase Online Conversions

In a recent blog post, we discussed three keys for understanding online conversions. To learn more about calculating your online conversion rate, visit this post.

To summarize, online conversions occur when website visitor takes a certain desired action. This action could be adding something to a shopping cart, signing up for an email list, using a coupon code, or making a purchase. Some business websites may even count telephone calls or scheduled appointments as online conversions.

Whatever it is you want your visitors to do, there are ways to increase the number of people who are clicking, buying, or calling on your site. One of the best ways to begin increasing online conversions is by building dedicated landing pages to go along with online marketing campaigns.

Design for More Clicks

Landing pages are individual website pages geared toward achieving a certain outcome. If you think about Google.com as a landing page, the main purpose is to get the visitor to conduct a search query. The simple design of Google.com points the visitor’s full attention to the main search bar. In this same way, you want to think about your landing pages visually and use the layout, text, and images strategically to draw visitors’ attention toward the important button or action you want them to take.

Integrate with Online Advertising and Email

Businesses conducting pay-per-click or display advertising can build landing pages that carry through the messaging of an ad campaign. Let’s say a visitor gets to your website by clicking a text ad for 15% off on pet supplies. You can send that visitor to your home page and hope he or she finds the right products and applies the discount code to make a purchase.

Or, you can direct that visitor to a landing page that features your top 10 products and reiterates the 15% offer code. The landing page will increase the chances that your visitor converts into a customer. Similar to online ad visitors, email recipients will also convert at a higher rate if you send them to a landing page related to the email content.
